- Type the name of a village, town or city into the Search box, either on the Maps page at the top,
or on the Welcome page in the bottom right-hand corner (the 'Tips' link will give you more information on what other things you can search for).
- Click on the Go button next to it.
- If the name you entered is in the index of places, you will see it in the list of places displayed.
- Click on the place you are looking for. The map will redraw showing the place you chose in the middle of the map, at approximately 1:50,000 scale.
Note that street names are not in the system, and some smaller villages, or suburbs of towns and cities may not be found also. If you choose a large town or city, you will initially only be presented with a small, central part of it in view - use the navigation controls to explore the area or search for another location.
You can search on just a part of the name also, but you get more matches to look through in order to find the location you want.
