Using the Targeting and Planning Map

What's in the Environmental Stewardship Summary Report?

The Environmental Stewardship Summary report is accessible from the Information results page of all the three streams of the Targeting and Planning Map at all times, even if the JCAs themselves are not configured for display - it provides a complete summary of the information in Nature on the Map on BAP Priority Habitats, Farmland Birds and Priority Catchments relevant to the JCA selected by the user.

The Environmental Stewardship Summary report is designed to help inform you of what biodiversity features are present and significant within the Joint Character Area (JCA) selected. The JCAs are the area framework through which the priorities of Defra's new Environmental Stewardship Scheme (ESS) (http://www.defra.gov.uk/erdp/schemes/es/default.htm are expressed. Scheme application proposals that address features to be of known national or regional significance are much more likely to be appropriate and therefore successful. Applicants to ESS are encouraged to use this information to help inform an appropriate choice of options within the scheme and provide some landscape context to their decisions. This information will need to be used in conjunction with the JCA Targeting Statement developed by your local RDS office; this indicates the local priorities for the scheme in your JCA. You will also need to consult other individuals and data sources as detailed in the scheme literature.
