When you first start using the Targeting and Planning Map, you will see that the standard zoom in / out
'ladder' control has been replaced with the more flexible, separate Zoom In
and Zoom Out
controls. There is also an additional tool, the Information Tool
, which is used to find out more about something on the map.
To zoom in, click on the Zoom In icon to select it, then place the cursor over the map and either click once to zoom in on that spot, or click and drag a box over the map to zoom in to the box you draw. The Zoom Out control works the same way, but zooms out. When you click and drag a box with the Zoom Out tool, the current map extent is made to fit in to the new box you have drawn.
The eight small arrows around the edge of the Map re-centre the map in the direction of the arrow - this is the same as the standard map function. The map will move half a map (width or height) for each mouse click. You can also pan around if you hold down the Alt key and click and drag with the mouse to relocate the map.
You can go back through your maps using the browser Back button.
You can reload the Map to show the whole extent of England by clicking on the Zoom to England Tool
To find out more about something on the map, navigate to that feature so that it is clearly visible in the map; select the Information Tool
and then click on that feature in the map image. A table of features underlying that point from the map layers you have configured will be listed.
